How you will make an impact as a Toll collector:

Responsibility for the receipt and recording of all cash, cheques, vouchers and debit notes issued by the collector. Ensuring validity of coinage, notes and cheques tendered by the customers and preparation of floats. Ability to accurately process high volumes of cash with the application of attention to detail with concise and clear record keeping. Upon completion of site/job specific training is competent in Bridge Toll collection duties and ability to understand and implement safe operational systems of work. Accounting Instructions and other operational requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Operation of lane equipment via touch screen interface and various ancillary devices including barcode scanners and tag readers.
  • The opening/closing of booths using appropriate lane control signs and the placement of
    traffic cones at lane entrances.
  • Classification of vehicle class/toll in accordance with Toll Schedule. Receipt of toll money and vouchers as appropriate to the vehicle passing through the toll lane.
  • Counting and deposition of all revenues and items collected – preparation of individual collector deposit sheets and maintaining an accurate running balance of cash received. Preparation, transit and sealing of cash containers (including interim deposits) from booth to control room night safe.
  • Dealing with driver enquires, answering queries in a courteous manner and in accordance with laid down procedures and bylaws. Directing customers to Tamar Bridge Office and liaising with Control Room in the event of a protracted query or matter than cannot be reasonably resolved at the booth.
  • Maintaining a high standard of professionalism and smartness, in accordance with published
    dress standards
  • Ensuring compliance with operational and safety procedures within the toll plaza and
    associated areas.
  • Summoning appropriate assistance and ensuring efficient communication with Bridge
    Control Room via intercom, VHF Radio Sets and other communication devices supplied by
    the client.
  • Ability to accurately carry out instructions given from Bridge Control Room staff.
  • Ability to comply with health and safety regulations in an operational and/or transportation
    environment.
  • Undertake violation procedures as the need arises, including recording descriptions and
    registrations of vehicles breaching the system, advising the Control Room of unusual
    occurrences or system failures.
  • Recording vehicle registration marks and identification details as necessary for crossing by
    categories of vehicle for which special arrangements may be made from time to time (e.g.
    emergency vehicles or abnormal loads).
  • Ensuring adequate levels of stationary and equipment are maintained within each booth.
  • In the event of an emergency, following the instructions of Bridge Control Room personnel to
    contain the incident and assist customers.
  • Maintaining a level of fire safety training required by the client.
  • Ability to write clearly, comprehensively when writing reports or statements.
  • Ability to interpret/process routine information presented from physical, computer and
    audible sources.
  • Ability to climb narrow/steep stairs and access toll booths in outdoors environmental
    conditions.
  • Ability to carry cash bags
  • Other duties and responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the employer including
    undertaking the role of Tag Support or Cleaner on an as required basis, subject to satisfactory
    completion of associated training
