As one of Midlands leading 1st tier suppliers of precision engineered components, we are looking for an accomplished Purchasing Manager based from our 40,000 sq. ft site in Daventry, Northamptonshire.

Continuing growth and exceeding targets and expectations, we seek to fill this new senior position in our business, targeting the alignment our purchasing strategy, sourcing procedures, and external partner relationships to the needs of our business in 2023 and beyond.   

Commutable locations: Daventry, Rugby, Southam, Warwick, Leamington Spa, Banbury, Northampton, Towcester, Milton Keynes, Wellingborough, Market Harborough, Coventry, and Leicester.

You will be tasked to develop and head up this new role in the business. The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for strategic procurement activities across multi-disciplines and categories. You will be responsible for sourcing strong supply chain partners with continuous benefits to the business’ cost and service levels.

What’s involved in this Purchasing Manager role?

The primary focus of this new role is to align our purchasing activities throughout the business with strong external supplier relations resulting in effective control over our purchasing department. 

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop, lead, and execute purchasing strategies.
  • Track & report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness.
  • Build negotiating strategies and close deals with optimal trading terms, setting up LTAs and service agreements.
  • Continual improvement of purchasing, material management, and logistics processes.
  • Visit and manage existing and potential suppliers to ensure compliance with business goals.
  • Liaise with Production and Engineering to introduce new products into the business.
  • Introduce innovative sourcing methods and forward buying to reduce supply risks; review market trends to identify changes of balance in buyer-supplier power.
  • Perform cost and scenario analysis, and benchmarking.
  • Hands-on procurement of engineering products and materials.
  • Develop the purchasing activities in line with our Epicor ERP system.

Benefits

  • £40,000 to £45,000 basic salary
  • 8am – 5pm Mon- Thurs / 8am – 1pm Fridays
  • 25 days annual paid holiday allowance or prorate
  • 9 x statutory paid holidays in 2023 allowance

Essential Skills

  • Experience as a Purchasing Manager, Procurement Manager, Senior Buyer, Buying Manager, Senior Commodity Manager – manufacturing / engineering.
  • Qualification in or proven experience as middle to senior purchasing manager / senior buyer / senior commodity manager comfortable with a budget of up to £5M (currently £2.5M).
  • Business management skills.
  • Strong leadership capabilities and competency in decision making.
  • A progressive thinker who can implement change and spend efficiency.
  • Highly organised with a high level of attention to detail, able to successfully manage multiple work channels and budgets.

Desired Skills

  • Purchasing, Supply Purchasing and Logistics, or Supply Chain Management degree.
  • Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply qualification.
