The purpose of this Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer role is to ensure the effective maintenance of all plant and equipment and ensure that the production plan is achieved.

Responsibilities of the Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer will include:

  • Advising and assisting in the design of new plant to ensure that best practice for the maintenance of hygiene and health and safety is adhered to.
  • Ensuring that all plant and equipment is maintained in good repair, that servicing is carried out within defined timescales, and that all engineering work is carried out in accordance with best practice.
  • Managing the services of external contractors to ensure that work is carried out and is completed to company requirements, within defined time scales, and adhering to Food Safety and Health and Safety requirements.
  • Establishing that all plant and equipment is checked prior to start of production.
  • Ensuring that the methods used for calibrating and checking measuring and test equipment, and the calibrations carried out by the contractors are reviewed regularly.
  • Identifying training requirements and ensuring that all relevant personnel have adequate training and knowledge to operate machinery.
  • Assuring that planned preventive maintenance schedules exist for plant, equipment, and building fabric in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations and agreement by the company and to ensure that the repair and maintenance enables correct operation and function.
  • Checking that company policies, procedures, and standards are followed.
  • Ensuring that engineering records are accurately maintained and presented in a timely manner.
  • Liaising with relevant management in regard to engineering issues which are detrimental to production requirements.

We welcome applications for this Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer position from candidates with experience in the following areas: Maintenance Engineer, Multi Skilled Engineer, Engineer, ONC or equivalent, Electrical, Mechanical, Communication, Manufacturing, FMCG, 17th Edition Electrical Standards, BRC.

Additional Information

Base working hours are Monday to Friday, 07.00 – 16.00.

The role will require additional flexibility in working hours to meet the needs of the business.

Essential Skills

  • Nationally recognized Apprenticeship, or equivalent in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Bias plus ONC or equivalent in Electrical or Mechanical Bias
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to develop good working relationships with managers in other areas of the business, to deliver the common goals of the business in terms of profitability and provision of agreed service levels to customers.
  • Willingness to embrace change and the ability to work to tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Desired Skills

  • Minimum of 2-3 years previous experience in a similar role
  • 17th Addition (Electrical standards)
  • Proven post-apprenticeship experience in an engineering environment within a similar food industry site working to BRC standards.
  • A high degree of ‘troubleshooting’ skills combined with the ability to make decisions and operate on your own
  • A good understanding of manufacturing processes and procedures and experience of working within the fast-moving consumer goods sector
  • A background in fresh chilled meat/poultry is desirable but not essential as full training will be given
  • Welding experience would be advantageous
