This Health Care Assistant vacancy has become vacant due to We Are With You being awarded funding by the government’s ADDER (Addiction, Diversion, Disruption, Enforcement and Recovery) Accelerator programme in Liverpool. The programme will offer support to people with their drug use, help divert people away from the criminal justice system and offer harm reduction to communities. We’ll be working for Liverpool City council alongside Merseycare NHS Trust, YMCA Together and Merseyside Police.
The role will include to support and assist the clinical team in the provision of a range of health assessments and treatments under the direction and supervision of the clinical team. Promote physical, mental and emotional wellbeing amongst service users and their recovery from dependence. Support the effective running of prescribing clinics, initiating onward referral to partner agencies as appropriate.
We are looking for a compassionate individual with experience of working in substance misuse offering one-one support, first class health assessments and health support planning skills, risk management and safeguarding. A good working knowledge of local services and appropriate referral pathways, and support agencies is desirable.
This job is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check at an enhanced level with Barred List(s).
About the job
We are here to support anyone who needs help with substance misuse and you will part of our clinical team delivering this important service. You will assess clients, develop a care plan that will work for them and then, with the support and guidance of the clinical team, provide the necessary treatment.
We work as one team across the service to ensure our clients get the best possible care, referring them on to other specialist teams where needed.
You will also help clients to take an holistic approach to their overall recovery journey by helping them to understand the importance of their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing too.
You may also carry out health screening too, such as phlebotomy, BBV screening or monitoring vital signs, withdrawal scales and treatment compliance for those clients embarking on detoxification.
Of course there’ll be admin and housekeeping to do too but that’s all part of this busy and varied role.

Please note, this role is Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm but the occasional 10am – 2pm cover may be required
Essential Skills

- be able to show how you have developed yourself in previous jobs
- have a successful track record of working in a healthcare setting and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- have experience of carrying out basic health checks such as blood pressure, pulse, weight and height
- be able to build effective working relationships with a wide range of different people and work effectively as part of a team
- be able to manage your time at work
- be able to accurately collate, record and maintain information and have experience with IT
- be able to be flexible with working times and able to travel to other locations from time to time
