This is an exciting opportunity to join Thales as a Field Service Apprentice within the UK Field Services team.

You will learn how to work on electrical and electronic equipment, this will include installation test and service as part of the role. Interpreting technical information, you will be completing planned and unplanned maintenance on marine defence communication and Sonar equipment. Flexible thinking and structured problem-solving will be required core skills. 

As a Field Service Apprentice this programme forms part of our succession planning for the future. You will be trained, supported, and monitored throughout the process. Throughout the duration of the apprenticeship, you will be paid, and day released to PETA’s Havant engineering skills centre for off-the-job training.  You will learn how to work safely, work efficiently, use technical information, how to conduct business improvement activities, use Computer Aided Design software, general machining, fitting techniques, how to maintain mechanical and electrical equipment, how to assemble and test electronic circuits as well as general welding techniques.

Training to be provided:

Your Level 3 programme will include day release for 24 months to complete a level 3 BTEC technical certificate. You will also complete a level 3 Engineering work-based qualification delivered by PETA.

After a period of foundation skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:

Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence). Following a further period of skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:

Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) – Technical Support

Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)

Overall duration 48 months

About the role:

The Field Service Apprenticeship is an initial four-year role where you will have the opportunity to develop effective engineering skills and knowledge across all major Maritime Field Service disciplines, such as Communications, Sonar, and Electronic Warfare. You’ll be making the most of your talents, getting to understand engineering from the ground up; and doing so with the help of one of the biggest and best names in the industry.

A review is carried out at the end of the programme to confirm the direction of your future career and discuss the options of further training as appropriate.
